All women who belong to First Presby, Irwin are members of Presbyterian Women (PW). As Presbyterian Women, we nurture our faith through prayer, Bible study, and support to the mission of the local, Presbytery and worldwide church. We work for justice and peace, and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). We offer friendship to all women of the congregation and encourage them to participate in the activities of fellowship, and reach out to other Christian women. PW at First Presby, Irwin hosts an annual luncheon with entertainment, often performances by the talented Show Choir of Norwin High School. This is a fellowship activity enjoyed by many.
On the local level, we provide support to the food pantry, the men’s prayer breakfast, the Blackburn Center for Women, Presbyterian Women worldwide, the Synod and the Presbytery. In addition we have contributed to many improvement projects within our church. We have also been instrumental in helping those in need. We have hosted the Redstone Presbyterian Women’s Fall Gathering, provided support for the Pine Springs Camp, and attended the Redstone Pretty in Pink Tea. The latter is a fund raiser and in 2019 realized $3,100 which was given to the Avonmore Presbyterian Church for the “Rise Against Hunger” meal packing event they sponsored. Several people of our congregation participated in this event.
For many years, an annual flea market and donations from the general congregation served as major sources of fund raising. The flea market has been phased out and the search is on for other types of events to raise funds. Everyone is encouraged and welcome to submit ideas for how the organization can raise funds to fulfill its purpose for serving humanity.

In 1977, Joy Howard, a former member of our church, came up with the idea of starting a Ladies Bowling League for the church. In September of 1977, 16 women joined the Presby Ladies Bowling League at West Hills Bowling Lanes in Greensburg. In January of 1978, one of the ladies had to quit and I was available to join. Over the years, we have increased and decreased in membership.
We moved from West Hills to Hillview and then to Main Bowling Center, where we currently bowl. I am the only one left from the original first year. A couple of years ago, we changed our name to the Out to Lunch Bunch. My friends surprised me with a cake and a crown, designating me as the Bowler Queen. It has been a great 41 years and I hope to enjoy a few more.
